First Communion

Catholics believe that when we receive Holy Communion we are sharing in the body and blood of Christ. Holy Communion, and the whole service (Mass) is also known as Eucharist, from a Greek word meaning thanksgiving.

First Holy Communion ceremonies are usually organised through a child’s school. It usually takes place while the child is at primary school aged around 7 or 8 years. If your child is not at a Catholic school, talk to the parish clergy about arranging for your child’s First Holy Communion. The sacrament of confession (First Confession) usually precedes the First Communion
