Funerals
Although it is a very sad and traumatic time when a loved one dies, the Church would encourage you to be as involved as you can in the preparation of the funeral ceremony. It is the final journey of your loved one and a time for you to make that journey with them, to commend him or her to the Lord and it also can be a source of comfort to those in mourning.
You can make contact with the priest about the funeral arrangements or the undertaker can do this on your behalf. The funeral celebrant may require some details about the life and personality of the deceased to help him prepare a homily. The priest may help you decide on the readings and the responsorial psalm or you may yourself have readings that you wish to have read.
You may have had time to arrange the funeral with your loved one prior to the death also.

The funeral has 3 stages.
- The vigil and reception of the body at the church. This usually takes place the evening before.
- The Funeral Mass and commendation of the deceased to God.
- The Committal or Burial/cremation.
There will also be times afterwards to remember the deceased.
