Baptism

Baptism is the welcoming of your child into the Church and God’s family.

During this ceremony, the Godparents make promises on the child’s behalf to do good, avoid evil and by this, the child is starting life free of guilt and sin.

If you are having your child baptised, the first step is to contact the parish priest or parish secretary and to make an appointment to talk to him about the Baptism.

There is some preparation required in advance of the ceremony and where the parish has a Baptism team, a member of that team will also contact you. This will ensure that you are prepared for and understand what it is that you are asking for your child.

If you are an adult who has not been baptised and wishes to be, then contacting the parish priest is the first step. You will probably be asked to undergo instruction and this may be done by clergy or the baptism team.
